Hey everybody!!! Here is my Week 1 Check-In for the Gurlish Curls’ Curl Boot Camp!!! My successes this week feel in the categories of protective styling and eating more fruits and veggies!! My struggles feel under water intake and exercise. These 2 components are key for healthy hair and a healthy body. Please feel free to comment and tell me about your successes and struggles for the week!

The first hump to over come anything new, be it a new job, hobby, or meeting new people, is getting started.  This is usually the hardest part of it all.  There are so many things racing through your mind about whatever challenge you are undertaking.  “Will it work? What if I fail?  I am going to fail?  I’m afraid, etc…”  Well here’s the thing, you only fail if you don’t try.  So my tip for this week:  GIVE IT A SHOT!!!  What do you have to lose? Nothing. What do you have to gain? EVERYTHING!!!  Set a small goal for yourself and work towards it.  There is nothing stopping you but you.  And trust me, I am talking to myself right now.  I have the hardest time controlling my negative thoughts, but with prayer and self-control I’m trying to think more positively about everything, especially with this challenge! Best of…

So the summer is upon us…pretty much…and my hair is already starting to take a beating. I know that some of you all are having or are about to have the same issue. Dry ends or dry hair in general, breakage, seeming lack of growth….these are signs that something needs to change!! So I am proposing a hair boot camp. A concentrated, focused amount of time and energy to get the results that you want. But…summer weather is not the only culprit in this battle of health, oh no…YOU ARE! Many say that you are what you eat, and what you put in, you get out. My question to you is what are you putting into your body??? Are you drinking enough water? Are you eating fruits and veggies? Are you taking multivitamins? Are you taking care of yourself? Realize that you can’t focus on the hair alone, the body…

Hey everybody!! I have decided to give my blog a facelift and a name change! It will now be called Gurlish Curls!! I am excited about the change and I hope you guys are as well. I decided to change the name because when I initially decided to do a blog, I just went with the flow of, “Oh, I have natural hair so it has to say natural or naturally something..” I never really took time to be creative. So with the personal changes I’ve been making in my life, I figured why not change the blog to reflect that as well. To me, Gurlish Curls stands for being grown up, with childlike wonder and excitement for my whole life including my curly, kinky hair! Its about loving me just they way that I am, and if I don’t like something, I’ll change what I can! For me, this…

After almost 1 1/2 years, I actually went to a salon and got my hair done! I hate going to salons because I hate waiting for ever to get my hair done… Anywho, thanks to Natural Chica’s last video of her Too Groovy Salon experience, I decided to check them out. Now for me to have gone to do this, I had to be at the salon at 9AM in rush our traffic WITH the added benefit of rain (what a joy…). I was up at 7 AM to leave at 8AM to get there. Tired as crap, I went and here is the result of my experience… Here are the pictures of my trim before the curls…. After Curls… …
