One of the biggest problems that I have trouble controlling mentally and physically is my eating habits. I like to eat as do most people. And though I don’t eat poorly, I don’t always eat balanced either. I don’t always get the right amount of fruits, veggies, whole grains, protein. or dairy. It’s not just about focusing on one area of food, its about balance and having the right amount of each food group. Check out Choose My Plate for more info about balanced eating. All of the nutrients that you receive from your balanced diet directly affect your hair. A poor, imbalanced diet can stunt hair growth, cause hair breakage and cause thinning. In particular, you hair needs:

Protein and Biotin – for strength, a deficiency in these can make hair brittle
Vitamin A and C – to help produce sebum (you body’s natural oil)
Omega-3 fats, Selenium – for a healty scalp
Zinc – will reduce hair shedding!!!
B Vitamins – for healthy hair, skin and nails!!

These are just some of the things that our hair and bodies need!  My challenge for you is simply this: Keep your plate colorful!  The more colorful the plate the more likely you are to be getting all the proper nutrients that you need!!
