It was more than exhilarating to run the Fire Fly 5K, it was literally like a dream come true! After training for the past 8 weeks, I could finally see the fruits of my labor! I’m pretty sure I’ve never done anything more difficult than running in general, but I loved every minute of it! The biggest thing that I took away from this 5K was a very simple notion: I CAN do it! There is something to be said about anyone that accomplishes a goal that they have set for themselves. It creates this amazing feeling of self-worth and a healthy feeling of pride. As determined as I can be about certain things in my life, I suck at setting and achieving goals. I can say I’ll do something and do it, but when you add a time line to it I’m like, “Welp…..” This is probably the first…

Hey y’all!! I know I haven’t posted in a month but this 5k training has been kicking my butt with all the running and weight lifting. It makes me very tired, sore, and SLIM!! WHAT WHAT!!! This make me happy and keeps me going! There have been many tears shed on this journey to a 5k, but I’m learning that with lots of prayer and self-confidence I really can do any thing! In my previous post, I wasn’t sure what I was gonna do with my hair, but now I’ve got it all figured out! I wear my hair in big twists in a pony tail, tied down with a scarf! This way there is no detangling involved. I still only wash my hair once a week! Wooo hooo!! So here are the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the past 7 weeks. 1. Wear a scarf/head tie/bandana. I say this…

Thats right folks! This bottom heavy, natural-hair woman before you is training for a 5K!! Its call the Fire Fly Run. It takes place Saturday night, October 5, 2013. Two things you should know about me before you ask questions: 1. I never done this before. 2. I also am not a runner. As in… I. DONT. RUN. EVER! Nonetheless, I am very excited to do it! This is the end of week one for me. I train 3 days a week with the app C25K from Zen Labs. The other days, I’m usually in a Zumba class. I am supposed to be adding some strength training for endurance this coming week, but I really have no clue what I am doing! Thank God for friends who are personal trainers and such because they are helping me plan a strength training routine. Once I have it I’ll gladly post it.…

One of the biggest challenges many of us will face is getting our hair to grow longer! I personally suffer from OMG! It’s Not Growing Syndrome. Many of you probably do to! The symptoms include: Staring obsessively in the mirror Dreaming about longer hair Constantly stretching your hair with you finger to see if has grown since last night Avoidance of hair washing for weeks due to possible tangling Trying any product that claims to see stronger, longer hair in a few days Product Junkiness You get the point! We all have gone through this stage. The one thing I took from going through all this, and after consulting with beauticians and friends, is that you must protect the ends. Yes, hair goes through phases of growth, loss, and dormancy, but these are not the main determinants of hair length. Besides genetics, water and proper nutrients, the best way to…

One of my favorite shows is Parks and Recreations on NBC!! This show is super hilarious! One of my favorite episodes is from season 4 called “Pawnee Rangers.” In this episode Tom and Donna invite been on their annual shopping spree “Treat Yo’ Self 2011.” In this episode, the go to the mall to purchase pretty much anything they want. They go to the spa, get massages, mani/pedi’s….the WORKS! They only do it one a year thought, not everdyay or every week because that could get costly! I say all of this to give you your next challenge: Treat Yourself!! I am challenging you not to deprive yourself of everything you like forever. Reward yourself for the hard work you are doing! Maybe this week you wear your hair out in a HUGE fro or just let it hang loose. Have your favorite dessert once this week. Usually when you…
